Police told to zip it over drink drive limits
Yet another National minister is attempting to gag a government department, Labour’s Associate Health spokesperson Iain
Lees-Galloway says.
"Speaking to media Transport Minister Gerry Brownlee suggested the Police should keep their opinions on my Bill to lower
the drink driving limit to themselves.
"Like the rest of this increasingly arrogant and out of touch National-led Government, Mr Brownlee thinks he knows best
and isn't interested in the opinion and evidence provided by experts.
"National takes the view that if you don't agree with them, you should just shut up.
"I've received a number of messages from individual police officers who have witnessed the carnage of alcohol related
accidents. They all say the same thing: Lowering the drink drive limit is long overdue.
"The police and Police Association have a proud history of contributing to better law making. Their opinion has always
been valued by members of Parliament.
"Gerry Brownlee has got this one wrong. He should apologise to the police and encourage them to participate in this
debate."
