David Cunliffe congratulates Poto Williams
Labour Leader David Cunliffe has congratulated Poto Williams on her selection as the Labour candidate for the
Christchurch East by-election.
“The people of east Christchurch have been through so much since the earthquakes. They need a strong local MP to stand
up for them. Poto Williams will be a fantastic local voice for this community, and will continue the amazing work done
by Lianne Dalziel,” said David Cunliffe.
“Poto Williams is passionate about the future of Christchurch. She moved here to work with the community and help them
through the long road ahead. Her work in the community and NGO sector means she knows what needs to be done to get the
rebuild moving.
“It’s been three years since the earthquake, and yet too many people in Christchurch East are still waiting on insurance
settlements, struggling with EQC or grappling with the skyrocketing cost of housing. Poto Williams is a Christchurch
East local, living in New Brighton. She understands the challenges and knows what needs to be done to get things moving.
“Poto Williams brings many years experience in the community and voluntary sector. She will not only work for this
community but, as a Member of Parliament, advocate for communities all over New Zealand.
“Labour’s new beginning will be in partnership with communities, local government, workers and businesses to make our
country better.
“Labour is expecting a tough fight in this by-election and I know that Poto Williams and our whole team will be working
hard for every vote,” said David Cunliffe.
