Mana mischief misleads Maori again
The Mana Party are misleading the people once again by saying that the Maori Party is trying to abolish the Maori
Council.
“There is no option to get rid of the Maori Council on the table, and that is because of the work of the Maori Party
behind the scenes. Allegations by the Mana Party are deliberately misleading,” says the Maori Party.
“The Maori Council has served Maori well in the past, and we recognise the many things we have in place today because of
their hard work.”
“Today the landscape of Maori representation has changed, and that is why the cross-party Maori Affairs Select Committee
recommended a review of the Maori Community Development Act.”
The Maori Party MP’s said “Hone Harawira knows this. He knows it because he was Deputy Chair of the Maori Affairs Select
Committee in 2010 when they recommended the Government consult Maori people. People are fed up with his
misrepresentation of the facts.”
“One of the major reasons for the review is to look at options for the Maori Wardens, and to bring the Act in line with
their current role.”
“The Maori Party supports all tangata whenua groups wishing to advance our community development. We think this public
consultation is a positive process to express our thoughts about Maori representation in the future.”
The Maori Party MP’s said “Hone, we also recommend that you read the terms of reference for the review before spreading
lies in the public arena. It is because of your misrepresentations that people find it hard to work with you.”
