Resource Management Act Changes Must Not Impact on Recreational Fishery
UnitedFuture leader Peter Dunne says freshwater recreation groups will be looking very closely at the government’s
proposed changes to the Resource Management Act to ensure there is no reduction in current levels of protection for
freshwater fisheries.
“I have been assured by Environment Minister Amy Adams that the consolidation of sections 6 and 7 of the Resource
Management Act will not lead to any change in the traditional protection accorded freshwater fisheries and spawning
grounds, and I welcome that assurance.
“However, I expect the changes will be scrutinised very closely by recreational groups and that the Minister will hear
very quickly of any concerns.
“I would have thought that in the wake of the snapper debacle the last thing the government will want to do now is upset
recreational anglers!” Mr Dunne says.
