Street Prostitution Thrives While Police Stations Close
New Zealand First’s campaigner against street prostitution Asenati Lole-Taylor says it’s disappointing that the Otara
and Papatoetoe police stations close tomorrow while the local street sex industry thrives.
“The fact of the matter is that these two closures are going ahead without public consultation,” says Mrs Lole-Taylor.
“Street prostitution is a prevalent issue in these two areas of South Auckland and the closures of both police stations
sends out the wrong message to the local community.”
“Local communities deserve better and the Government should take the time to listen to their voice - the closures are
not well-planned and go against the democratic process of dialogue.
“Police numbers have dropped in the past year from 8940 in June 2012 to 8721 in February 2013 – so how is the Police
Minister going to ensure public safety with these closures?” says Mrs Lole-Taylor.
