GCSB Legislation Needs More Thought
Rt Hon Winston Peters says changes will be needed to new legislation covering the operations of the Government Communications Security Bureau within New Zealand.
The New Zealand First caucus received the proposed legislation this morning and in the brief time available to study it has found a number of areas that need improvement.
Mr Peters says the legislation needs to enhance the security and safety of New Zealand but must not compromise the rights of New Zealanders.
“We have found some areas of concern and need more time to put forward detailed improvements.
“Parliament got this wrong in 2003 and it is essential this time that we get it right,” says Mr Peters.
