John Key’s Mitt Romney Moment
John Key has had his own Mitt Romney moment when he was caught out telling a business audience what he really thinks instead of the usual manufactured spin, Green Party co-leader Dr Russel Norman said today.
Mitt Romney was caught out in a secret video dismissing nearly half the US electorate which seriously derailed his presidential bid last year.
John Key told Takapuna business leaders last week that: "The reality is even Wellington is dying and we don't know how to turn it around."
“John Key’s Mitt Romney moment exposes his lack of leadership and vision for New Zealand,” Dr Norman said.
“John Key, by his own admission, doesn’t know how to encourage prosperity but is in fact actively strangling the potential of the Wellington and Auckland economies.
“National has slashed public service jobs and created a climate of fear and caution in Wellington while Auckland is being strangled by National’s failure to invest in public transport. Nationally John Key has overseen massive jobs losses in the manufacturing sector and is doing nothing to address the high dollar.
“What this slip up also shows is that John Key doesn’t value the voters of Wellington. I expect a Prime Minister of New Zealand to listen and work for all people, even if they don’t vote for him.
“The Prime Minister represents the entire country. These comments were a slap in the face for the hardworking family people in Wellington who care deeply about New Zealand.
“If you want be Prime Minister of this country you have got to work for everybody, not just for some,” Dr Norman said.
