Generous Parekura Was a Servant of the People – Peters
Rt Hon Winston Peters has described Parekura Horomia as a generous, even tempered man who was a faithful servant of his Ikaroa-Rawhiti electorate for many years and one of New Zealand’s quiet achievers.
“New Zealand First is extremely sorry to hear of his death and we extended our deepest sympathy to his family and his people.”
Mr Peters says Mr Horomia had a distinguished career as a public servant before entering politics and gave a lot of his time, energy and commitment to his electorate, to Maori and to his country.
“His personal qualities were admired and his sense of humour was legendary.
“Parekura was calm and reasonable even when he was unjustly criticised and he never let the rough side of politics faze him or affect his approach to his duties.
“He was well liked and from across the political divide, his colleagues will miss him greatly,” says Mr Peters.
