We remember them on ANZAC Day
Labour today joins with all New Zealanders to remember the Kiwi soldiers who fought and died on the battlefields at
Gallipoli and to pay tribute to all our military personnel who have served in conflicts around the world.
“Today we come together as a nation to remember the sacrifice made by so many Kiwis who have lost their lives defending
our country. Their courage is an inspiration to us all.
“For our military personnel, it’s not just a case of doing their duty. It’s about serving their country, protecting our
people, playing our part internationally and preserving the freedoms we all enjoy here at home. We thank them for their
commitment.
“This ANZAC day we pay special tribute to the 10 Kiwi soldiers who lost their lives serving with our SAS and provincial
reconstruction team in Afghanistan. Their contribution and all those who served will never be forgotten by the Afghan
people whose lives have been touched by their service and dedication.
“Today we remember the sacrifice made by those who have died in defence of our country over generations. We also honour
the men and women who continue that proud legacy today by serving New Zealand with distinction,” said David Shearer.
