Statistics NZ Business Survey shows no case for Govt’s RMA assault
The Statistics NZ Business Operations Survey released today shows there is no basis for the Government’s assault on the Resource Management Act (RMA), the Green Party said today.
The 2012 Statistic NZ Business Operations Survey results were released today. The survey shows that the majority of businesses are not unhappy with environmental regulations.
“77% of businesses surveyed do not feel constrained by New Zealand’s environmental rules,” Green Party environment spokesperson Eugenie Sage said.
“We need rules that protect our environment, our economy depends on it.
“Environmental regulations make up only 17% of the resources which businesses spent on complying with rules and regulations.
“For a strong economy we need an RMA that protects the environment while allowing development.
“National wants to change the RMA to promote development at the expense of the environment. That’s short-term thinking that will leave us all worse off,” said Ms Sage.
