New Zealand First Calls Foul Over Crime Reporting Line
New Zealand First is questioning the worth of the new Crime Reporting Line (CRL) when there are still too few police to
investigate the crimes which will supposedly be reported to it.
Police spokesperson Richard Prosser says the CRL is smoke and mirrors, and will give the lie to claims by the Government
that crime rates have been falling.
"The truth is that people are simply not bothering to report crimes because they know nothing will be done about them.
"Communities know that the police do not have the manpower or budget to deal with day-to-day crimes as they happen, so
they have given up calling them.
“The new line will result in a small spike in reported crime numbers, and nothing else.
"The police need the resources and staff numbers which our communities deserve, including more front line officers, more
patrol cars on the streets, and CCTV cameras which do actually work and are actually monitored," said Mr Prosser.
