Reappointments made to tertiary institution councils
The Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment, Steven Joyce today announced the reappointment of 23 council
members to 12 polytechnic councils and two university councils, and a new appointment to the Waikato Institute of
Technology council.
The reappointments are:
• University of Auckland Council: Mr Peter Kiely, appointed to 31 May 2017
• Massey University Council: Mr Alistair Scott, appointed to 31 May 2017
• Aoraki Polytechnic: Mr Graeme McNally and Mr Craig O’Connor, appointed till 30 April 2015
• Bay of Plenty Polytechnic: Ms Rahera Ohia, appointed to 30 April 2017
• Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology: Ms Jenn Bestwick (Chair) and Mr Stephen Collins, appointed to
30 April 2017
• Eastern Institute of Technology: Ms Geraldine Travers, appointed to 30 April 2017
• Manukau Institute of Technology: Dr Manuka Henare, appointed to 30 April 2015; Mr David Wong-Tung, appointed to
30 April 2017
• Northland Polytechnic: Mr Vern Dark (Chair), appointed to 30 April 2015; Ms Clare Davies-Colley, appointed to 30
April 2017
• Otago Polytechnic: Ms Susie Johnstone (Deputy Chair), appointed to 30 April 2015; Mr John Christie, appointed to
30 April 2017
• Southern Institute of Technology: Ms Sarah Brown (Chair), appointed to 30 April 2015
• Tai Poutini Polytechnic: Mr Graeme McNally and Mr John Mote, appointed to 30 April 2017
• Waiariki Institute of Technology: Dr Neil Barns (Deputy Chair) and Dr Tom Richardson, appointed until 30 April
2017; Ms Ngaroma Tahana, appointed to 30 April 2016
• Waikato Institute of Technology: Mr Steve Tucker (Deputy Chair), appointed to 30 April 2014; Ms Maxine Moana
Tuwhangai, appointed to 30 April 2017
• Western Institute of Technology: Mr Ruakere Hond, appointed to 30 April 2017
“I would like to recognise the high quality leadership these people have provided to their institutions. I look forward
to them continuing their good work in the years ahead,” Mr Joyce says.
“I am also making one new appointment, Pam Roa, to the council of the Waikato Institute of Technology. Ms Roa replaces
the previous member Gordon Chesterman, who I would like to thank for his excellent contribution to the Council.”
Biography
Pam Roa co-founded several enterprises including Longveld Engineering Ltd, Vergence Ltd and the Everest Group Ltd. She
was also appointed as Aspiring Director to WEL Networks Ltd and employed in the NZ Dairy Group. She has a BSc from the
University of Waikato, a BTech and a Diploma in Dairy Science and Technology from Massey University.
