Greens Disappoint in Its Dealings with a Rogue MP
New Zealand First is disappointed that the Green Party has agreed to cast disgraced Independent MP Brendan Horan’s vote when he is not physically in the debating chamber.
Horan was dismissed as a list MP from New Zealand First last year after his family alleged he misused his dying mother’s credit card.
Rt Hon Winston Peters says the move by the Greens to help Horan can unfortunately be seen as legitimising his place in Parliament.
“There is no legitimate place in Parliament for Horan, now or in the future.
“And the Greens are wrong to say that his situation is similar to their exercising Hone Harawira’s proxy.
“Mr Harawira represents an electorate.
“Horan represents no one. For obvious reasons, New Zealand First does not want him and he should have resigned his list seat.
“He seriously let down New Zealand First voters and it is only the vagaries of MMP which have allowed him to remain as an Independent MP.
“We are very disappointed with the actions of the Green Party over this matter and our concerns have been expressed to their co-leader Russel Norman,” says Mr Peters.
