Support of Drought Declaration
New Zealand First has welcomed the official declaration of a state of drought for Northland.
Primary Industries Spokesman Richard Prosser said the declaration would allow farmers to access emergency relief and assistance as necessary, from a range of Government agencies including the IRD and the Ministry of Social Development.
“We understand the magnitude of the drought crisis in Northland and we support the Government’s official declaration.
“If conditions continue as they are it is likely the drought will spread to other regions, and we support the Government’s timely intervention in assisting farming communities and will help in whatever way we can,” he said.
