The Māori Party is saddened by news of the passing of the last Tūhoe 28th Māori Battalion soldier, Kepa Kepa.
“We acknowledge the important contribution Kepa made to our nation by defending our land and country alongside many of our tūpuna who have now passed on,” says Te Ururoa Flavell, MP for Waiariki.
“We extend our aroha to his whānau, hapu and iwi who have remained.”
“We have recently commemorated Armistice Day to honour our New Zealand soldiers who fought in World War One and it is with sadness that we farewell this koroua at this time.”
“Our Māori Battalion soldiers have made a special contribution to our nation, they fought for king and country to enshrine the sense of citizenship that we all take pride in today.”
