National not resourcing Police to monitor registered sex offenders
The front-line reality of Police Minister Anne Tolley calling for a register of sex offenders will not be lost on police
officers, Labour’s Police spokesperson Kris Faafoi said today.
“It’s one thing to have a register but it’s another to have the resources to monitor those on the register.
“Our front-line Police officers are coming under increased pressure from National’s Budget cuts to do more with less.
Can they really be expected to monitor those on Anne Tolley’s register?
“Just who is going to be responsible for the monitoring and how much resource is going to be dedicated to monitoring?
“I am sure front-line officers will be left asking ‘who is going to do that?’ at a time when National is cutting back
our front-line policing capability.
“At times like these I am sure our Police officers will be wondering what John Key was thinking this time last year when
he said they had a lot of ‘spare time’ on their hands,” Kris Faafoi said.
