Flavell Applauds New Suicide Support Process
The recently released Rotorua Lakes District Health Board’s suicide pilot scheme is one step ahead in tackling the issue says Te Ururoa Flavell, MP for Waiariki.
“The pilot scheme offers collaborative support to families dealing with suicide for up to a year, and I can see the need for such a system,” said Mr Flavell.
“The grief that follows the death of a whānau member in this manner is terrible. These families should not have to deal with such anguish on their own. For some families the pain can never be relieved without the right help and support”
“I want to congratulate the Rotorua Lakes District Health Board for taking the lead in such a way. It is vital that as whānau, hapu and iwi we start to learn more about how we can support each other to step in when needed, and provide the practical assistance that keeps us strong and well.”
“This scheme is a good start to help us address whakamomori in the Rotorua/Lakes DHB region - but of course it mustn't be seen as the only answer,” ends Mr Flavell.
