Electoral (Finance Reform And Advance Voting) Amendment Bill
The Māori Party supports the call for greater transparency in electoral finance reform, including:
• The regulation of how, when and how much money can be spent
• The formal declaration of corporate donations
• 3rd parties having to register with the Electoral Commission
We support the proposal to reduce the hassle for people wanting to lodge advance votes before polling day
We support clarification of election advertising but we would like to see less bashing of Maori, Pasifika, Asian and
people who lack the resources to defend themselves, during our election campaigns
ELECTORAL REFERENDUM BILL

The Maori Party does not support broad-brush referenda as an effective form of gauging Maori views
We support the view that Maori should be properly represented in Parliament in a way that reflects their place as the
Treaty partner
We support a more comprehensive discussion with Maori over the whole range of issues affecting Maori and elections
We support legislation that ensures elections are fair and reflect adherence to Tiriti o Waitangi
We support an electoral system that advances the reconciliation of kawanatanga and tino rangatiratanga
We support MMP because it has meant
an increased participation by Maori in the political system
