We’ve all lived and loved the All Whites dream
Goff: We’ve all lived and loved the All Whites dream
Labour Leader Phil Goff says the entire country
has “lived and loved the dream” as Kiwis have shared the
euphoria created by the All Whites’ magnificent, unbeaten
run at the World Cup in South Africa.
“Who would have really believed, before the tournament started, that New Zealand would finish ahead of defending world champions Italy in their group?
“Well, the team believed, that’s who,” Phil Goff said.
“And from the time of that last-gasp goal against Slovakia in the opening match, the whole country seemed to believe together with captain Ryan Nelsen, coach Ricki Herbert and the whole team that no hurdle was too big to overcome.”
Phil Goff said Kiwis now wanted an opportunity to honour the All Whites.
“The best way of doing so might well be simultaneous ticker tape parades throughout the country the next time the team gets together ---- perhaps before an international match planned for later this year.
“No one in government or business would surely begrudge a few hours to celebrate this team the way it deserves to be celebrated,” Phil Goff said.
“Their performances, against teams positioned so far ahead of them in world rankings, have been fantastic.
“They should be proud of themselves. We are certainly hugely proud of every one of them.”
