Rodney District Council Bill introduced today
A Local Bill that would create the Rodney District council as a unitary authority and separate it from the Auckland supercity has been introduced in Parliament today.
Labour List MP Darien Fenton has agreed to sponsor the Rodney District Council Bill and it should have its first reading within the next fortnight.
“I’ve put my name to the bill because none of the National MPs in the Rodney area would," says Darien Fenton.
“Local bills are different. They have to go through particular procedures and ensure local communities have a say first.
“We believe the government has badly mishandled the creation of the Supercity and the decision-making around Rodney’s inclusion has been a fiasco."
Darien Fenton says the Government has ignored the legitimate concerns of the people of Rodney District.
"They have not had a fair say on this. They’ve done everything they possibly can to get this government’s attention," says Ms Fenton.
"I have the utmost respect for the efforts that community has made to be heard by this government and that’s why I am pleased to sponsor the bill."
