Minister of Women’s Affairs must come clean on Ministry’s future
Minister of Women’s Affairs Pansy Wong needs to say where she stands on rumours her Ministry will be axed, Labour
Spokesperson for Women's Affairs Sue Moroney says.
“Finance Minister Bill English has hinted strongly that the National Government is considering axing the Ministry of
Women’s Affairs.
“But so far Pansy Wong has remained silent on what she understands the situation with her Ministry and her portfolio to
be.
“This is not the first time National has dismantled an organisation set up to tackle issues that affect women such as
pay equity.
“Last year the National Government disbanded the pay equity unit in the Department of Labour saying the work could be
done by the Ministry of Women’s Affairs," says Sue Moroney.
“It’s clear that National isn’t committed to advancing women’s issues,” Sue Moroney said.
