David Shearer selected as Labour candidate to fight Mt Albert by-election
David Shearer has been selected as the Labour Party candidate for the Mt Albert by-election, Labour President Andrew Little announced today.
Close to 200 members filled the Mt Albert Grammar School Hall to decide which of the 8 nominees would replace Rt Hon Helen Clark, Mt Albert’s MP for 28 years.
Mr Little said that the selection process had been keenly fought by the 8 high-quality nominees.
“I am sure that David will work hard to win the by-election on June 13. Labour will campaign hard and will take nothing for granted,” said Mr Little.
David Shearer said he was honoured to win Labour’s nomination.
“This by-election will be fought on local issues that matter to the people of Mt Albert such as the Waterview Tunnel, fighting National’s plans to force through its Super City changes, and improving public transport.”
“I am committed to being a strong representative for the people of Mt Albert,” said David Shearer.
