Opening of Parliament
Prime Minister John Key today said Parliament will open in the week starting 8 December.
Mr Key says the Commission Opening of Parliament is being planned for Monday, 8 December. This is when the new MPs will be sworn in and the Parliament chooses a new Speaker.
"The following day will be the Speech from The Throne and the beginning of the Address-in-Reply debate.
"National's intention is to pass its tax legislation before Christmas.
"The tax programme is a central part of the economic plan National campaigned on in the run-up to the election.
"National also campaigned on other polices that, in some cases, will require legislation. More details of the Government's legislative programme in the upcoming session of Parliament will be released in coming days."
