MP shocked at fatal shooting
Local Maori Party MP for Te Tai Tokerau, Hone Harawira, says he is shocked at the fatal shooting of an armed woman by the Armed Offenders’ Squad in Whangarei.
“I am very sorry for everyone involved in this tragic incident, and especially for the family of the dead woman,” he said.
“While I have only seen news reports of what happened, it appears that a situation of distress rapidly escalated to a fatal outcome which no-one wanted.
“No doubt we will learn more of the circumstances and understand more clearly what happened today, but that will not turn back the clock on this tragedy.
“I have no doubt everyone who got caught up in this event is deeply shocked, and I am very sympathetic,” said Mr Harawira.
