Dunne – Transmission Gully should be top of the list
UnitedFuture Leader and Ohariu MP Peter Dunne has challenged Labour and National to start ‘walking the talk’ over major infrastructure projects by committing the necessary additional funding for Transmission Gully.
“Both Helen Clark and John Key are promising to reinvigorate the economy through investment in major infrastructure projects; I can think of no better place to start than with Transmission Gully,” said Mr Dunne.
“Transmission Gully is a key component of the future efficiency of the national highway network, and will provide a much-needed strategic corridor in and out of Wellington.”
“Over the last three years, UnitedFuture has been at the forefront of progress on the development of the highway, with a clear plan for it now established and ready to go once funding is secured.”
“As part of its agreement with UnitedFuture, the Government has already assigned over $500 million towards Transmission Gully, however a significant funding gap still remains.”
“But with Labour and National committing to a significant boost in major infrastructure projects over the next few years I expect Transmission Gully to be at the very top of the list.”
“The long-term economic benefit of Transmission Gully to the Wellington region will be enormous, the sooner we can build it the sooner we can reap the rewards” said Mr Dunne.
