No new hot water cylinder regulations, says Jones
“Dr Nick Smith has spent far too much time in the midday sun and now he is dazed and confused because there are no new regulations limiting the size of hot water cylinders,” says Building and Construction Minister Shane Jones.
“The only thing that has happened is that consultation has taken place on energy-efficiency measures. There will neither be any compliance measures or regulations coming into force on the 1st of February.”
“No one is required to have a specific size of hot water cylinder, just as there are no rules telling people what to do with there showers. These claims by Dr Smith are fabricated delusions.”
Mr Jones said Dr Smith’s has been making his claims based on nothing more than a consultation document which had only sought submissions.
“A Department of Building and Housing draft compliance document for new housing was sent out for public consultation and the Department is now considering the submissions from the consultation,” says Mr Jones
“No one will be compelled to adopt a specific energy-efficient measure. I will ensure that homeowners will continue to have a real choice that suits their circumstances,” he said.
Mr Jones said Dr Smith should try telling the truth rather than unnecessarily alarming people.
