Cullen and Key Should Take Decisive Action
The Hon Sir Roger Douglas
Monday, October 6 2008
Responding to the much weaker condition of the Government accounts, Sir Roger Douglas, ACT’s Finance Spokesman said it’s time for both Labour and National to have the guts to adopt meaningful policies to deal with the economic crisis revealed in today’s Government PREFU accounts.
"Dr Cullen has known of this situation for months while embarking on a vote grabbing spending spree with no thought for the future welfare of every New Zealander.
"The people of New Zealand are now facing the consequences of wasteful policies.
"Labour Finance Minister Dr Cullen, facing imminent defeat, has knowingly embarked on a programme of largesse. It is equally disgraceful that Mr Key is not prepared to grasp the nettle and recognise that curbing government expenditure, while sensibly reducing tax to encourage higher productivity, is absolutely necessary," said Sir Roger.
"ACT looks forward to working with National to implement meaningful policies that will address the consequences of nine years of wasteful government spending and mismanagement."
