Appointment of Chris Hodson QC as Judge Advocate General
The Attorney-General announced today the appointment of Christopher John Hodson QC to the position of Judge Advocate
General of the Armed Forces.
Mr Hodson enlisted in the Territorial Force of the New Zealand Army in 1959, was commissioned in 1963 and retired, as
Lieutenant Colonel, in 1992.
Admitted to the Bar in 1966, Mr Hodson was a Partner in Major Gooding & Partners in Masterton between 1966 and 1982.
Mr Hodson then became a partner in Macalister Mazengarb Parkin & Rose in Wellington in 1983 and he commenced practice as a barrister sole in 1991 specialising principally in medical
and military law. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1998.
Mr Hodson was appointed a Judge Advocate in 1992 and has held the appointment of Deputy Judge Advocate General since
1995. Mr Hodson assumed the role of Acting Judge Advocate General following the retirement of Peter Trapski CBE in 2007.
