12:15 Transport: Greens' Jeanette Fitzsimons
The Greens released their transport policy a little over a week ago, and unsurprisingly it has a strong focus on
improving the public transport network. Transport spokesperson Jeanette Fitzsimons talks through what the party is
calling the most comprehensive programme ever.
12:30 Transport: Road Transport Forum
Of course, spending in one area means cuts in another and for the Green Party this means a moratorium on major new
roading developments and ending tax exemptions on diesel. What does the Road Transport Forum, voice of the road
transport industry, thinks about this? We are joined by CEO Tony Friedlander.
1:00 For the Animals
It's World Animal Week this week. To recognise this, The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) is stepping
up its campaign to secure a Universal Declaration for the Welfare of Animals at the United Nations. Campaigns officer
Bridget Vercoe is in studio to talk about what the Declaration would involve, and why the UN should be charged with
protecting animal rights.
1:20 Rescue Aborted
Early this morning the US House of Representatives rejected a compromised rescue plan for the financial industry, which
would have allowed Treasury to buy up "toxic debt" from struggling banks. Reaction on the markets has been chilly to say
the least, so what is the future looking like for both the US and us? interest.co.nz editor Bernard Hickey shares his predictions.
