National saddened by officer’s death
National Party Leader John Key says National is saddened by the death of the police officer shot in the line of duty in South Auckland early today.
“This is a very sad day for the family of the dead officer, and I would like to express National’s condolences to them.
“I also extend National’s sympathies to the injured officer and his family, and the entire New Zealand Police.
“This tragic event is another reminder of how dangerous the work of our police can be. They put their lives on the line every day, and this shows how quickly their work can turn lethal.
“It also saddens me that it has been just two months since another police officer was killed in the line of duty - Sergeant Derek Wootton.”
