Rapist Refugee: Out!
An Iraqi refugee convicted of raping a Lower Hutt schoolgirl must not under any circumstances be allowed to remain in New Zealand, says New Zealand First associate immigration spokesman Peter Brown.
“This man was welcomed to our country in a humanitarian gesture and given a chance to start life anew here. In committing such a heinous act, he has forfeited his right to remain in New Zealand,” said Mr Brown.
“In a welcome step, the Immigration Service is strongly opposing his appeal, and must be commended for their efforts to have this man removed.
“It is unfortunate, however, given the seriousness of the man’s crimes and the flimsiness of his case, that the law has even allowed him to appeal.
“The ridiculousness of the situation is highlighted by the fact that he claimed that Iraq was too dangerous to return to when his brother had already chosen to return.
“In future, upon release from prison, criminal immigrants must be driven straight to the airport and put on an airplane bound for wherever they came from.
“The message must be clear – it is a privilege to live in New Zealand. If you are a migrant and you commit serious offences, you are out, no ifs, no buts – out,” said Mr Brown.
