MPs cheer two RWC quarter finals in

Christchurch's government MPs are cheering the decision that will see Lancaster Park hosting two quarter-finals of the
rugby world cup in 2011.
"Christchurch has the infrastructure, the facilities, the enthusiasm and an unequalled love of the game that will make
it a fantastic venue for two quarter finals. It's great that the RWC committee has recognised that all of New Zealand,
not just the northern half, has much to offer players and spectators alike," the MPs said today.
Jim Anderton (Progressive MP for Wigram), and Labour MPs Tim Barnett (Christchurch Central), Lianne Dalziel
(Christchurch East), and Ruth Dyson (Banks Peninsula), say that as New Zealand's second largest city and the gateway to
the South Island's world famous tourist destinations, Christchurch is the best choice for hosting two of the event's
quarter-finals because of its excellent infrastructure and plentiful accommodation.
"Canterbury has a proud heritage as the home of New Zealand rugby and a successful record in the modern day era of
professional rugby. Christchurch is home to enthusiastic, knowledgeable and, some might say, parochial rugby people who
will welcome visitors to the Rugby World Cup," the MPs said.
Waimakariri MP and Rugby World Cup Minister Clayton Cosgrove is also delighted that Rugby World Cup Ltd approved the
recommendation made by Rugby New Zealand 2011 Ltd, to have Wellington and Christchurch cities host two quarter-final
matches each.
