Appointment to NZSO Board announced
Associate Arts, Culture and Heritage Minister, Hon Judith Tizard today announced the appointment of one new member and the reappointment of two members to the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Board.
New member Colleen Marshall (Nelson) has an extensive interest in and understanding of music including a 30 year career as a specialist music teacher. She is currently chair of the Board of Trustees for the Adam Festival of Chamber Music and her previous roles have included chair of the Nelson Arts Council and the Central Regional Arts Council.
Colleen Marshall has been appointed for a three-year term ending 31 July 2011.
Bill Falconer, CNZM, (Waikato) has been reappointed for a three year term. Mr Falconer, a professional company director, was appointed to the NZSO Board in 2003. Mr Falconer’s previous government appointments include chair of the Accident Compensation Corporation and the Environmental Risk Management Authority. He is currently Chair of a number of organisations including Hellaby Holdings, the Meat Industry Association and the Maurice Wilkins Centre for Molecular Biodiscovery. He is a Director of TOWER and Westfield Trust.
Peter Rowe (Auckland) has been reappointed for a one year term. Mr Rowe, a senior partner with an Auckland law firm, was appointed to the NZSO Board in 2003. He has been involved with many major corporate acquisitions in New Zealand and advises here and overseas on governance and general corporate matters. Mr Rowe is a trustee of ASB Community Trust Board and chair of the NZSO Foundation.
Judith Tizard said she was pleased to welcome Ms Marshall to the NZSO Board. “This appointment will bring a wealth of artistic knowledge and governance skills. I am confident that the NZSO will be well served by her contribution," she said.
“I am also very pleased that Mr Falconer and Mr Rowe have agreed to serve further terms. They bring valuable business experience and a broad range of skills to the Board,” said Judith Tizard.
