Jennifer Binns Appointed District Court Judge
Jennifer Ann Binns, Barrister of Hamilton, has been appointed a District Court Judge, Attorney-General Hon Dr Michael Cullen announced today.
Ms. Binns was admitted to the bar in 1980 and held various Staff Solicitor and Associate Solicitor positions in Dunedin, Hamilton and Masterton, before practising as a barrister sole in Hamilton, from 1991.
While she has previous experience in the civil and criminal jurisdictions and as a youth advocate, she has specialised in family law since 1985. Ms. Binns is a senior lawyer for the child and has acted for children for over 25 years.
Ms Binns was appointed to the Human Rights Review Tribunal in 2004. She was a Tenancy Adjudicator for some 14 years and has served two terms as a Disputes Tribunal Referee.
Ms Binns will be sworn in at Hamilton on 17 October 2008 and will sit in Palmerston North.
