Key leaves constituents to the dogs
Labour MP Darien Fenton says she is seriously concerned about the security of constituent information at John Key’s Helensville electorate office after Mr Key’s claims that papers were “stolen” from his rubbish.
“The primary purpose of an electorate office is to provide a service to constituents. Information collected by an MP is often highly personal and confidential.
“Why is John Key leaving very private constituent information in the regular rubbish?
“Surely, even Mr Key knows about secure rubbish disposal, which is how the papers from an electorate office should be taken care of.
“This is grossly irresponsible. If cats or dogs get into the rubbish, private constituent information could be strewn all over place. We can only hope no private information was lost in the latest hound raid of John Key’s rubbish.
Ms Fenton says she is writing to the Privacy Commissioner to express her concerns and will seek advice on the rights of constituents whose information could continue to be disposed of in such a careless fashion.
