Appointments to lottery committees
Internal Affairs Minister Rick Barker, has announced 15 appointments and reappointments to the Lottery Regional and National Community Distribution Committees, the Lottery Health Research Distribution Committee, and two newly established Committees; the Lottery Individuals with Disabilities Distribution Committee and the Lottery Community Sector Research Committee.
"Eleven Lottery Regional Community Distribution Committees and eight National Distribution Committees distribute the profits of New Zealand Lotteries such as Lotto, Lotto Strike, Instant Kiwi and Keno. The Lottery Grants Board allocates this money to each distribution committee. The main function of Lottery distribution committees is to provide funding for community projects," Mr Barker said.
The Lottery National Distribution Committees consider applications that have a national focus, or where applicants are national organisations. Lottery Regional Community Distribution Committees consider applications that have a more local focus. The committees must consider the needs of Maori, Pacific peoples and other ethnic communities, women, youth, older people, and people with disabilities.
The distribution committee appointments and reappointments are: Bay of Plenty/Gisborne: Trish Hanlen (appointed); Waikato: Allan Hughes (appointed); Manawatu/Whanganui: Carla Donson (appointed); Otago/Southland: Rex Fox (reappointed); Health Research: Dr Sarah Young (appointed); Individuals with Disabilities: Tony Howe (appointed as Presiding Member), Beverley Grammer (appointed), Lynne Nicholl (appointed), Ken Talbot (appointed), and Allison Franklin (appointed); and Community Sector Research: Allison Kirkman (appointed as founding Presiding Member), Terrence Loomis (appointed as founding Member), Ruth de Souza (appointed as founding Member), Peggy Fairbairn-Dunlop (appointed as founding Member), and Donovan Ryan (appointed as founding Member).
Trish Hanlen has been appointed to the Lottery Bay of Plenty/Gisborne Community Distribution Committee to fill a vacancy and has been appointed for the remainder of that term, commencing on 18 June 2008 and expiring on 28 September 2009.
Allan Hughes has been appointed to the Lottery Waikato Community Distribution Committee to fill a vacancy and has been appointed for the remainder of that term, commencing on 18 June 2008 and expiring on 28 September 2009.
Carla Donson has been appointed to the Lottery Manawatu/Whanganui Community Distribution Committee to fill a vacancy and has been appointed for the remainder of that term commencing on 18 June 2008 and expiring on 30 June 2008, and an additional three year term, commencing on 1 July 2008 and expiring on 30 June 2011.
Rex Fox has been reappointed as a Member of the Lottery Otago/Southland Distribution Committee for a term of three years, backdated to commence from 18 October 2007 and expire on 17 October 2010.
All other appointments and reappointments are for a term of three years, commencing on 18 June 2008 and expiring on 17 June 2011.
