Minister serves up healthy new menu
Education Minister Chris Carter served up a new healthy menu at Kelston Intermediate today following the implementation
of the new healthy eating guidelines for schools.
The Education Minister also opened the new Tuck Shop at Kelston Intermediate and assisted Fuelled 4 School students
serving food from the new healthy food menu.
“The campaign for healthier schools is about encouraging students to think about healthy food and good nutrition,” Chris
Carter said.
The National Administration Guideline 5 came into effect on June 1 and promotes healthy food and nutrition for all
students as well as ensuring that wherever food and drink is sold in schools, healthy options will be available.
Kelston Intermediate, the location of today’s event, is one of fifty schools throughout New Zealand taking part in the
Fuelled 4 School challenge.
Fuelled 4 School requires students to come up with their own solutions to get their fellow students eating well so they
will have more energy and focus at school.
“It is great to see these students have taken up the healthy eating challenge and are passing on that knowledge to
fellow students,” Chris Carter said.
