Award for Ministry of Women’s Affairs well deserved
The Ministry of Women’s Affairs (MWA) last night won the IPANZ excellence award for managerial leadership. Acting
Minister of Women’s Affairs Lianne Dalziel said she was delighted that MWA had received the well deserved award.
IPANZ is the Institute of Public Administration of New Zealand. It is a voluntary, non-profit organisation committed to
promoting improvements in public policy and in administration and management in the public sector in New Zealand.
“I offer my congratulations to all at MWA. Over the last three years this small, but effective ministry has worked hard
to push the boundaries, and challenge itself to make a big difference despite its small size. Strong and visionary
managerial leadership within MWA has guided it to where it is now.”
Lianne Dalziel said a review of MWA in 2003 by the State Services Commission concluded that the ministry should be
retained and strengthened. It is now consistently seen as a top performing state policy agency.
“This small ministry contributes significantly to government outcomes by sometimes leading, sometimes supporting with
expert advice, and other times by adding value in areas where larger agencies are leading. It has strongly contributed
to family and sexual violence cross-sector work, leadership in public sector governance, and contributing to the
international reputation of New Zealand.’
Lianne Dalziel said the IPANZ awards were a great way to celebrate and reward public sector excellence.
“I am sure that MWA, by showing how a small agency can excel, can be a model to many.”
