National backs AG probe on DHB contracting
National Party Health spokesman Tony Ryall is backing the Auditor General’s decision to do additional work on the contracting processes at the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board.
“What is very important is that the Auditor General has signalled that he will be investigating procurement and conflicts of interest right through the wider DHB sector. The Auditor General has advised that he believes there may be systemic problems in this area.
“Parliament and the public will welcome this attention, and will need to seriously consider any improvements in policies and practice that can be identified.
“The deficiencies in the policies and practices that operated at the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board are already in the public arena, but National is of the view that Hawke’s Bay was never likely to be an isolated case.”
