Three new appointments to Correspondence School Board
Education Minister Chris Carter has appointed three new members to the Correspondence School (TCS) board, which has been
reappointed until September 2009.
Carol Moffat, Nori Parata and Wayne Bainbridge will join existing board members Patricia McKelvey (chairperson), Russell
Ballard, Roger Taylor and Roger Drummond. Claire Hague, Ian McKinnon and Polly Schaverien are retiring from the board.
Chris Carter said the three new members bring a wealth of skills to the TCS board.
“The new appointees are all current or former school principals, and have an in-depth knowledge of the demands of
schooling.
“They also have a wide range of skills and experience in a large number of professional and community organisations.”
Correspondence School Board of Trustees:
Chairperson
Patricia McKelvey CNZM MBE, is an experienced board chair with a reputation for achieving results. She is the current
chair of The Correspondence School Board of Trustees and the former chair of Career Services, the board of the Local
Government Industry Training Organisation and the Wellington Regional Sports Trust. Some past positions include Hillary
Commission Commissioner and Governor of the New Zealand Sports Foundation.
Members
Carol Moffatt, MNZOM is the former manager of the Ministry of Education’s Information and Communications Technology
(ICT) strategy for schools, an initiative supporting the implementation of learning technology in schools. Carol is also
the former principal of Oxford Area School and the former deputy principal of Lincoln High School.
Nori Parata is the principal of Tolaga Bay Area School. Nori is Ngati Porou, Ngai Tahu. Nori. Her school is part of the
Stepping Stones Cluster - for the ministry’s Extending High Standards Across Schools project. Nori is a member of the
Maori Principals’ Group Developing Leadership Potential and NZQA’s Maori Reference Group for Te Rautaki Maori a te Mana
Tohu Matauranga – the Maori Strategic Plan.
Russell Ballard is currently the deputy chair of The Correspondence School Board of Trustees. He has acted as Chief
Executive of the Department of Child, Youth and Family. Russell has previously held positions as Chief Executive Officer
Land Information New Zealand, Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Director General of the Ministry of
Agriculture and Fisheries, Director General of the Department of Education, and Secretary of Forestry.
Roger Taylor is currently a member of the board of trustees of The Correspondence School. He is a chartered accountant,
who operates as an independent financial consultant specialising in financial, economic, and general management advice.
He has 30 years of consulting and auditing experience.
Roger Drummond is currently a member of the board of trustees of The Correspondence School. Roger has been a partner in
the law firm Bell Gully since 1983, working in the Financial Services Department. He is a senior partner and a member of
the firm’s Maori Services, Media and Sports Law groups.
Wayne Bainbridge is principal of Matipo Primary School, Te Atatu, Auckland. Matipo is a year 1-6 school with a 2008
student roll of 386. Wayne was a Fulbright Scholar in 1987, a University of Auckland Research Affiliate Scholar in 1992,
and the holder of West Auckland Principals Association Study Awards in 2995, 1996 and in 2001.
