National endorses concerns over Zimbabwe
National Party Leader John Key today endorsed the expressions of concern from Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters over delays in releasing the results of the Zimbabwe elections.
“The elections in Zimbabwe were held last Saturday, but the fact that no results at all have been released raises obvious concerns about the preparedness of the Mugabe administration to accept the will of the people, and increases the risk of serious unrest in Zimbabwe,” says Mr Key.
“These developments have occurred against the background of reports of conduct on the part of the regime that already threatened the prospect of free and fair elections.
“The National Opposition joins the Government in expressing growing concern over delays in the release of the election results and calling on the Mugabe regime to respect the will of the Zimbabwe people.”
