Greens launch 'Proud to be Green' billboards
Green Media Release - 7th March 2008
The Green Party today launched its 'Proud to be Green' billboards in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. The
billboards feature trans-Atlantic rower Rob Hamill and actress Miranda Harcourt alongside Green Co-leaders Jeanette
Fitzsimons and Russel Norman.
"We are proud to be the voice in Parliament for sustainability, justice, peace and democracy. And we are proud that
other well-known New Zealanders support us," says Jeanette Fitzsimons, Green Party Co-Leader.
Rob Hamill and Jeanette Fitzsimons launched the 'Proud to be Green' campaign from a cherry-picker on Auckland's busy
Newton Road this afternoon.
"I'm proud to support the Greens," says Rob Hamill. "I know from being a rower just how much pressure our rivers, lakes
and oceans are under. We need a Green voice in Parliament."
"As human beings living on this planet we have a choice to change our ways and protect our world or put our future at
risk. We have an incredible opportunity in New Zealand to show the world how to live sustainably. We've led the world
with votes for women and nuclear free and we can do it again," says Mr. Hamill.
"We could all sit back and do nothing but if we won't step forward who will? That's why I'm proud to stand next to
Jeanette Fitzsimons and the Greens," says Mr. Hamill.
You can view copies of the billboards at the Green website - http://www.greens.org.nz/campaigns/proud/ which also has
high resolution versions for download.
The billboards are paid for by donations from Green Party members.
