KCDC shows the way for drought prone areas
The Green Party is congratulating the Kapiti Coast District Council for leading the way on water conservation.
The council has announced that all new houses in the district will be required to have either have a 10,000-litre water
tank or a 4500-litre tank and greywater system for garden irrigation.
"This is exactly the sort of role that local government should be taking to ensure a sustainable water supply,"
Co-Leader Jeanette Fitzsimons says.
"Kapiti Coast residents will be much more secure in a drought, than those living in other drought prone areas.
"In addition the move will help to protect aquifers and streams from drying up and will help to preserve water quality
as the more water that flows in rivers, the more pollutants are diluted.
"I applaud the Kapiti Coast District Council and encourage councils in other drought prone areas to follow their
example."
