Congratulations to Christchurch
Disability Issues Minister and MP for Banks Peninsula Ruth Dyson today congratulated Christchurch City on winning the right to host the 2010 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Championships.
“This is fantastic news for Christchurch and for disabled athletes around New Zealand,” said Ruth Dyson.
“I would also like to acknowledge the efforts the late Graham Condon made to help bring the Championships here. As a former world champion paralympian, he knew the benefits world class competition can bring – both for New Zealand sport and for the economy.”
Christchurch beat Barcelona to win the hosting rights. The Championships will be held at QEII Stadium over a period of just over two weeks and it is estimated they could bring in as much as $72 million to the local economy.
“This has been a great week for Christchurch, after landing the rights to the Ellerslie Flower Show.”
