CYF ‘Naming And Shaming’ Should Have Been Avoided
A website that ‘names and shames’ Child, Youth and Family employees would
never have happened had the Government set up a CYF Complaints Authority,
as United Future MP, Judy Turner has long called for.
“This website is the product of perceived injustices from parents who
feel that CYF are unaccountable for their actions – and to a degree they
are right," said Mrs Turner.
“An independent complaints authority is desperately needed, so parents
who feel wronged can have their cases looked at by a body outside of the
CYF department.
“It is regrettable that these parents feel the only option left to them
is to try and get their stories and grievances into the public arena – it
is because there is simply nowhere else for them to turn.
“CYF workers and discontented parents alike need a complaints authority
to protect them both. It would add a level of accountability and
transparency to the system that is lacking," said Mrs Turner.
