CAA review cause for concern
Serious flaws highlighted in an independent review of the Civil Aviation Authority come as no surprise to National’s Transport spokesman, Maurice Williamson.
“The report, released today, highlights a lack of clear direction in management, reluctance to use regulatory interventions, and the need for greater focus on safety targets.
“These findings haven’t come out of the blue - the CAA’s flaws and serious lack of progress have been well documented.
“The CAA has been at the centre of one critical report after another. How is it that Transport Minister Annette King has continued to let this slide?
“One would have expected the CAA to have lifted its performance considerably but that clearly is not the case.
“Enough is enough!
“All too often the CAA responds with a 'we're working on it' type of comment. It’s time they actually did.
“How can successive transport ministers sit on their hands while this deep seated dysfunctionality is left to fester?
“It’s time Labour was held accountable for this mess.”
