National Welcomes New Leader
National Party president Judy Kirk today welcomed John Key as Leader of the New Zealand National Party.
“Mr Key’s aspirational vision and dynamic approach to both politics and the National Party, puts National in the driver’s seat for winning the next election.
“John has always been well regarded by myself and the members of the organisation since entering Parliament in 2002.
“Mr Key has an engaging personality and an inclusive leadership style. He is a genuine leader of the people and will be a strong leader of the National Party.
“It is a very exciting time for the National Party and I am delighted that the National Party Caucus made a unified decision.
Mrs Kirk concluded by commenting that:
“The real job ahead for the National Party is to prove to the New Zealand voters that we are capable of delivering a National lead Government. I look forward to working with Mr Key to deliver that National lead government”.

National Party president Judy Kirk today welcomed Hon Bill English as Deputy Leader of the New Zealand National Party.
“Mr English’s strong party links and connection to the rural heartland ensures that National remains strongly committed to one of our core constituencies.
“Like Mr Key, Bill has always been well regarded by myself and the members of the organisation since becoming a MP in 1990. His organisational understanding and long political career within the National Party is a valuable asset to have on the road to winning the next election.
Mrs Kirk concluded by commenting that:
“The real job ahead for the National Party is to prove to the New Zealand voters that we are capable of delivering a National lead Government. I look forward to working with Mr Key, Mr English and the National team to deliver that National lead government”.

National Party president Judy Kirk today thanked Gerry Brownlee for his work as the National Party’s Deputy Leader.
“Mr Brownlee’s efforts and hard-work as Deputy Leader of the Party are well known. I would personally like to take this time to thank him on behalf of the Party for that work.
“However, I also acknowledge that Mr Brownlee is and will, remain a key member of National’s team focussed on winning the next election. So I continue to look forward to working with him closely to achieve that goal.
Mrs Kirk concluded by commenting that:
“While Mr Brownlee has retired as Deputy Leader, the real value and expertise that Gerry brings to the National Party hasn’t been lost. The real goal is yet to be achieved, and I thank Gerry for being committed to that goal”.
