Kedgley to address Dioxin meeting in New Plymouth
Green Party Health Spokesperson Sue Kedgley will be addressing a meeting called in New Plymouth tonight to canvass the
current state of the Government response to the community's exposure to dioxin from the Dow Chemical plant, and to
create a fund to enable full and proper research into the health of the people most affected by the contamination.
Maori Party co-leader Tariana Turia and National Party MP Dr. Jackie Blue will be among the other speakers.
"This meeting gives us a historic opportunity to press for comprehensive action at long last on this issue. Over the
past few days, the Government and Health Ministry have been caught out once again trying to get away with merely a token
response. By appointing a researcher already on the public record as lavishly praising the MoH report on the
contamination, the Government cannot credibly claim to be confronting the serious concerns raised by the recent TV3
dioxin documentary. Now is the time to consult with those in the community most affected, and to get real action on
their behalf," Ms Kedgley says.
