Government fails on house burglary promise
The Labour Government is failing to get on top of the house burglary problem as it promised it would, says National’s Associate Law & Order spokesman, Chester Borrows.
He is commenting on crime statistics that show only 15.7% of house burglaries were solved in the year ended June 2006.
“This is the second year in a row that the resolution rate for house burglaries has dropped, meaning the Government’s strategy for dealing with this epidemic is having no effect whatsoever.
“Also, the 15.7% resolution rate is the second lowest since Labour came into office in 1999/00.
“And recorded burglary offences jumped to 39,946 this year – the highest since 1999/00.
“These trends are further proof that this Government is failing to deliver on its 1999 promise to get on top of the burglary problem.
“They have had seven years to get this right but we are now almost back to 2000 levels, despite what they claim.”
