More answers needed on vote-buying claims
National Party Leader Don Brash says allegations made by the Maori Party require more than a casual denial from the
Labour Government.
“These allegations are among the most serious ever levelled by any political party in this country. In anybody’s
language, vote-buying is corrupt.
“The New Zealand public would be horrified to think there was even a remote chance that a private individual can buy the
outcome of a democratic election in this way.
“Labour must get to the bottom of these claims. Helen Clark and Mike Williams have an obligation to reveal what they
know.”
Dr Brash congratulates the Maori Party for refusing the inappropriate offer, but for the good of the country he says the
Maori Party must reveal the identity of the individual who made the advance.
“Light needs to be cast on this issue as soon as possible to preserve the integrity of, and confidence in, our
democratic process.”
